DIY Yarn lampshade

One way of doing it is by creating an structure that stays by itself. Quite easy and pretty cool results:

Materials and Tools:

6 yarn skeins in various colors
lampshade frame
scissors
tape measure

Wrap First Color

Pull the yarn from the center of the skein. Using the first selected color of yarn, tie a double-knot on the top ring of the wire frame next to one of the vertical posts. Wrap the yarn down around the bottom ring and up to the top ring. Continue wrapping the yarn from left to right over the top ring and around the bottom ring, making sure not to overlap each individual string.

Attach first yarn color to lampshade by tying a knot.

Wrap first color of yarn around the lampshade.

Finish Wrapping First Color

Wrap the first color of yarn all the way to the next vertical post. Cut the yarn, leaving 3 to 4 inches of extra length. Tie a double knot on the top ring of the wire frame and cut the excess yarn from each knot.

Wrap first yarn color around lampshade until you reach the first vertical post.

Tie knot when you are finished wrapping first yarn color and before starting the next color.

Wrap Second Color

Tie a double-knot with the second color right next to the vertical post where you finished the first color. Wrap the second color as you did with the first color, but only to two inches wide. Tie and cut end before starting the next color.

Attach the second yarn color to the lampshade by tying a knot before wrapping.

Wrap second yarn color around lampshade to 2".

Tie a knot when you're finished wrapping the second yarn color around the lampshade.

Wrap Third Color

Attach the third color, and wrap to the next vertical post. Tie and cut excess string.

Wrap Lampshade Halfway

Using the fourth color, repeat wrapping steps, stopping at 1”. Repeat steps for fifth color stopping at 3”. Stop at the next vertical post using the sixth color, which is halfway around the lampshade.
