Welcome to our first class on our new unit.<\/p>\n

Class 10 ( 9N March <\/strong>24th<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1. Writing your research into the Design brief, A4<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Now that you have completed the research, you need to write in one page what you are planning on doing in this unit. So, we are rewriting A1 but incorporating all the research we have done. By research we mean:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • the justification in A1<\/li>\n
  • the research in the appendix following the research plan, A2<\/li>\n
  • the research you did by analysing other awareness campaigns, A3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    Now it is the time to make sense of it all. After we read your Design brief we should know:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • WHAT kind of game you are going to make<\/li>\n
    • what materials you are planning on using or what tools or skills you have learned during your research that will guide you.<\/li>\n
    • SUSTAINABILITY: how you plan on being sustainable<\/li>\n
    • WHY: the topic you are trying to teach t, include any data and tell us why you chose this one<\/li>\n
    • WHO: is your audience and provide any research you have done about your audience<\/li>\n
    • WHO is your client and provide any research you have done about your audience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The Design brief has 4 paragraphs:<\/p>\n

      \"\"<\/p>\n

      To get 7-8 you need to develop a design brief<\/span> which presents the analysis of the research.<\/span> What that means is that when you write your sentences you need to say what you are planning on doing<\/span> and\u00a0 why, based on what you learned on your research.<\/span><\/p>\n

      These are some examples that I share with grade 8s:<\/p>\n

      I am going to make a 3D sculpture using recyclable materials.<\/span> According to my research on Sciencing.com “List of materials that are recyclable”<\/a> I am planning on using newspapers, paper and cardboard, since they are easy to recycle after the exhibit is done.<\/span><\/p>\n

      My piece is going to raise awareness about the pollution in Beijing.<\/span> According to the Ohio State Press books<\/a>, Beijing has one of the worst air-pollution worldwide and “The number of motor vehicles on Beijing\u2019s roads has doubled to 3.3 million with nearly 1200 added each day.\u00a0<\/span>Emissions<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from motorized vehicles contribute to nearly 70% of the city\u2019s air pollution. The four most dangerous pollutants that are emitted include: sulfur dioxide (SO<\/span>2<\/sub><\/span>), nitrogen dioxide (NO<\/span>2<\/sub><\/span>), carbon monoxide (CO), and\u00a0<\/span>particulate matter<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(e.g.\u00a0<\/span>PM10<\/span><\/a><\/span>).” <\/span><\/span>\u00a0With my piece and my poem I plan on raising awareness about how our transportation decisions affect our city air, and try convince people to use public transportation.<\/span><\/p>\n

      3. There is no checkpoint for A4, only oral comments<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      The feedback to your A2 and appendix should be enough to let you know if you are on track, but if you need more support please call me during class or ARE.<\/p>\n

      4. Summative A<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      As you can see on Managebac, the final summative A is due at the beginning of next class, please come ready to upload. There will be no resubmission for Criteria A.<\/span>\u00a0 Your grade will be posted on the Term 3 report.<\/p>\n

      Class 9 (9N March 19th, 9O&9L March 22nd, 9Q March 23rd)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      1. Continue working on your research<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      At the beginning of the class you should have completed 3 questions on the appendix, use the rest of the class to complete the rest.<\/p>\n

      2. Upload to Managebac your Appendix<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      I will check that you completed your research and are ready to work on the Design brief (A4) next class. A4 will be the last task and we will upload the summative right after.<\/p>\n

      3. Finishing up A1,A2,A3<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      Make sure you have finished and are clear about the 3 first tasks. Ask me any questions you may have since we will be uploading soon. Oral comments during class or ARE.<\/p>\n

      Class 8 (9N March 16th, 9O&9Q March 17th, 9L March 18th)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      1. Check comments on MB to A2<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      Please read your comments to your questions\/sources. You need 6-8 approved questions to start doing your research. Remember 2 things:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • The research needs to be done on another file: the Appendix\"\"<\/li>\n
      • Please don’t spend more than 20 minutes per research question. At the end of this class you should have research 3-4 questions, so you can finish next class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        2. Spend today the class researching the 3-4 more important questions<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

        Write your findings in the appendix, in your own words. Please do not copy and paste. Include any graphics or images that help your research.<\/p>\n

        3. Primary sources: client<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

        The lovely primary school science teachers prepared these videos for you answering your questions. Enjoy!<\/p>\n

        1. what do grade 4s and 5s know about climate change?
        \n2. how can we explain it to them simply?
        \n3. what are the areas of climate change that can interest them more?
        \n3. what kind of games are they interested in?
        \n4. do you know of any educational games that you recommend for this age?<\/p>\n
