He started taking pictures of strangers he would walk by.<\/p>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sitebuilderreport.com\/blog\/how-humans-of-new-york-got-started\">article<\/a>: In the beginning, Stanton\u2019s focus was photography. Though he had no professional training, he set out to create an exhaustive catalogue of New York City\u2019s inhabitants: \u201cI was going to take 10,000 portraits and plot them on an interactive map of the city.\u201d Since then, he\u2019s far exceeded that original goal, but his methods and objectives have changed.
